Your school is invited to participate in the GACS-Dwight Love Mathematics Tournament. The tournament will be held at Greater Atlanta Christian School on Saturday, March 13, 2009. The campus is located on Indian Trail Road off I–85 in Norcross, Ga. As always, this tournament will be held in honor of Dr. Love who passed away in 2001, and the contributions he has made to mathematics education and competition.
The location of the tournament has been changed this year. We will hold the Registration and the Ciphering in the Long Forum rather than the Bradford Gym. Also, we are planning to have Starbucks coffee for sale in the lobby in the morning, and pizza, subs and possibly Chick-fil-a available for purchase for lunch on-site. As usual, sponsors will have a breakfast prepared for them included in the tournament fees.
PreAlgebra, Algebra I,Junior Varsity (Math I and II, or Geometry/Algebra 2), and Varsity (Comprehensive)
A school may enter one team of up to 25 students in each level. Students may not compete in any level in which they have completed that class. Each level will have a 25 question multiple-choice test with three tiebreakers within a 60-minute time limit. There are changes in the Ciphering competition this year. Every student will participate in the ciphering. There will be 10 questions given. Questions answered correctly in the first minute will earn 10 points. Questions answered correctly in the second minute will earn 5 points. Students may only submit one answer per question. The team score will be the sum of the top four written test scores plus the top four individual ciphering scores.
Fees are $50 per team entered. Teams submitting registration forms with payment on or before February 19, 2008 will receive a reduction of $5 per team entered. Teams who submit two 4-choice questions for each level entered will receive a $10 per team discount if the registration form is postmarked by February 19, 2008. The questions may be used for the 2011 exam. We request that these be submitted on duplicates of the following page. Please make checks payable to GACS. The registration deadline is February 26, 2008. No refund of fees is possible after the deadline. Please provide an email address so that we can acknowledge receipt of your registration. Late registration fee, if there is room available, is an additional $10 per team, with no discounts available.
