As an integral part of its mission to help students grow as Jesus did, “in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52), GACS believes in cultivating a spirit of service among its individual students and within the entire student body. To aid in accomplishing this goal, a service component is included within each of the Bible classes students take in high school.
Though a minimum of 10 hours of service is required in Bible each school year, it is hoped that students will choose to go above and beyond this minimal requirement. For those desiring to do more, an honor service cord will be awarded at graduation.
The turn-in date for service hour logs and 500-word reflection essays (one essay covering all of the student's service for the year) for school year 2013-14 is Friday, April 25. The student's essay, which may be handwritten or typed, should address the following: What did you do and what did you learn from your service and the people, ministry, or organization you served and worked with? How were you shaped in the process? What life lessons can you take from the experience?
SH Service will sponsor Service Days on a monthly basis throughout the year (dates TBD). Parents must complete the online GAC Permission Form in order for their child to participate. The Permission Form need only be submitted once for the 2013-14 school year. GAC does not provide transportation, however parent volunteers will coordinate carpools for students.
