As an integral part of its mission to help students grow as Jesus did, “in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52), GAC believes in cultivating a spirit of service among its individual students and within the entire student body. To aid in accomplishing this goal, a service component is included within each of the Bible courses students take in high school.
Each GAC student in 9th-12th grades is required to complete a minimum of ten (10) hours of service each school year. Six (6) of the required ten (10) must be completed off-campus. Each year, every student's service hours will be recorded into a cumulative database.
Keeping up with service hours is the responsibility of each student. A form is available on the GAC website to help them do this. The form should be printed out and service events and hours filled in as they are completed. Students are required to turn in their completed service hour form to their Bible teacher toward the end of the semester. In order for the hours to be counted, each service event must be verified with a signature and/or certificate of service rendered. Students are highly encouraged to keep a personal copy of their service hour form. This information will be very valuable when completing college applications.
In addition to the completed service-hour form, students must submit a 500-word reflection of their service for the year. All service hours for the 2013-2014 school year must be submitted by Tuesday, April 22, 2014.
