As children master the early childhood and elementary music curriculum, many diverse experiences develop their musical literacy and prompt a love of singing and performing. Promises Chorus, a select, auditioned group for 4th and 5th graders, offers upper elementary singers the opportunity to delve more deeply into musical study by learning two and three part choral literature, increasing their musical knowledge, and working effectively as a performing ensemble. Children enjoy a wide variety of music including American folk songs, classical literature, new compositions, sacred songs, Broadway favorites, and spirituals. Choreography, solo singing, and instrument playing are often part of our musical interpretations. Promises singers represent our school both on and off campus as leaders of the Elementary division.
Promises families commit to weekly before- school rehearsals and a spring tour. The group performs 6-8 times each semester, including the all-school Thanksgiving assembly, Grandparent’s Day, and 5th Grade Graduation, and enjoys several fellowship events. Outreach is always part of our year together. Parent participation facilitates our success.
Believing that leadership and character development go hand in hand, we encourage all singers to grow musically, spiritually, and emotionally as we seek to serve others and to represent God, our families, and our school through participating in Promises.
