Taking creative risks, encouraging curiosity, and collaborating with peers is central to creative work. The Visual Arts Department strives to build student confidence and resiliency to fundamentally transform students into creative learners using 21st century skills. The curriculum focuses on developing creative understandings and technical proficiency, literacy in a variety of mediums and expressions, and multiple opportunities to develop a lifelong relationship with the arts. The department supports collaborative cross-curricular opportunities and encourages students to communicate and advocate through the fine arts, seeing this as an important life skill that extends into and compliments all other disciplines.
Students have the opportunity to participate in the Visual Arts program beginning in 1st
grade. In the Elementary, visual art is part of the curriculum as a weekly class. In Junior High, students can take semester-long art courses. In Senior High, GAC offers two foundations visual art courses, 2D Design and 3D Design, as well as numerous more specific courses
.The visual arts program offers numerous field trips to give students an opportunity to experience cultural awareness and off-campus learning.
