It is my honor to serve as the K-12 Learning Advocate for Greater Atlanta Christian School. Our Academic Support program is designed to provide appropriate and exceptional academic instruction and support to students with mild learning differences. We serve students and families by providing an understanding of a student’s individual learning profile and identifying the most appropriate small group instruction to meet the needs of each student.
We serve families at various stages of the learning journey and strive to prepare students for independent learning. Within the Lower School, we establish a strong reading foundation with reading coach instruction from Orton-Gillingham trained specialists. For students in our Academic Support classes, we provide small group instruction with a multi-sensory approach while exploring the K-5 Math and Language Arts curriculums. Our 6th-12th grade Academic Support course not only establishes a strong executive function foundation with planning, organization, and study strategies but also identifies each student’s instructional needs and addresses them through individual academic tasks. Our program also offers Test Support for students to receive accommodations on classroom and standardized testing.
At each level of service, our teachers guide students through the process of self-awareness and self-advocacy. We strive to help our students grow as Jesus did – in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and man (Luke 2:52). We want our students to acknowledge the unique gifts God has placed in them and how to use those talents and skills to develop effective approaches to learning.
At GAC, we understand the importance of connecting with students and collaborating with parents. It is the strong partnership we establish with our families that allows us to meet the needs of our diverse learners. I am looking forward to partnering with your family. If you have any questions about our Academic Support program, please don't hesitate to contact me.
