5th Grade visits High School Chemistry Lab

One of the unique strengths of an Infant–12th grade campus is the opportunity for students of all ages to learn alongside one another and engage with spaces beyond their everyday classrooms. GAC fifth graders experienced that firsthand during a visit to the High School chemistry lab.

Led by Dr. Betsy Rogers, High School chemistry teacher, students explored the fundamentals of chemical reactions through hands-on experiments. The lesson reinforced the four key indicators that a chemical reaction is taking place: a change in color, the formation of a new smell, the production of bubbles or gas, and the release of light or heat. Through live demonstrations and experiments, students were able to observe each of these indicators in action.

The experience brought classroom concepts to life as students worked inside GAC’s 13,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art science and engineering lab. The visit not only deepened their understanding of science but also highlighted the benefits of learning on a shared, connected campus.
