This season, the GAC Flag Football Program returned to the field. The program included three teams (Team Red, Team Black, and Team White) that practiced and played against each other from late August through the month of October.
GAC Flag Football is open to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade boys. With help from parent volunteers as coaches and staff members from the GAC Football Program, each player learns the fundamental principles of the game. The goal of GAC Flag Football is to help our players develop a passion for the game, all while becoming closer with each other and with Christ.
The final tournament on October 23rd, included two contests. Team Red faced Team White in an elimination game during the first round. Team Black was the top-seeded team and had an automatic bye to the championship. Both sides struggled to move the ball early in a defensive struggle. However, Team Red was able to hold on for the win and advance to the title game after defeating Team White 14-6.
The following contest for the Flag Football Championship was an intense matchup. Team Black tied the game up at 13-13 late in the second half, but Team Red was able to score a crucial touchdown to secure a 20-13 win. This win officially crowned Team Red as the 2021 Flag Football Champions.
Being able to place each player in situational events on the field was very rewarding. Having players learn how to take responsibility for their own assignments, learn how to work together as a team, all while enjoying the game is truly a blessing.
