Each year, Mr. Matt Fincher, Social Science teacher and Director of Academic Competitions, leads his class in the National History Day competitions. Held at both the University of Georgia and Kennesaw State University, these events bring together students from across the state to present topics they’ve spent a significant portion of the year researching and mastering.
This year, Mr. Fincher’s students explored a wide range of topics, from the 1972 Stockholm Conference to the Selective Service Act of World War I. The competition challenges students to demonstrate subject expertise, deliver compelling presentations, and exercise creativity and public speaking skills- all essential tools for success beyond high school.
Several students excelled at the regional competitions. Congratulations to the following students:

By earning 2nd place in the state, Annabel Murphy and Hope Halley advanced to the National History Day competition, held in June 2025 at the University of Maryland. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented GAC on the national stage. Congratulations, Annabel and Hope!
