Mock Trial is an engaging academic competition where students simulate real courtroom proceedings, assuming the roles of attorneys and witnesses. This year, the GAC Mock Trial team achieved remarkable success, advancing all the way to the GHSA State Competition. After finishing as runners-up in the Region Competition, they secured their place as one of the top four teams in the state.
Congratulations to the sixteen dedicated students who contributed to this season’s success:
The team’s season began in October when they received their case materials. From that point on, students participated in rigorous, frequent practices to master the case facts, develop characters, refine arguments, and enhance real-time problem-solving skills This year, their season continued until March.
Mock Trial teaches students critical skills such as public speaking, logical reasoning, teamwork, and the ability to think quickly under pressure. For some students, like Ellie Challas, Mock Trial has been a cornerstone of their high school experience. Ellie has participated in Mock Trial for four years and was awarded the “Standing Attorney Award” this year. For others, it’s a brand new experience. Logan Denton, Class of 2028 and winner of the “Outstanding Witness Award” shared, “I would advise that students do things that challenge them. It helps you to grow and to gain a better understanding of yourself. Specifically how you operate in situations in which you face difficulty.”
