Happy 4th Bird-Day, GAC Chickens!

GAC has included chickens as part of the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) for over ten years, becoming a favorite part of the hands-on experiential learning at Greater Atlanta Christian School.  Four years ago, this current group of nine hens named by GAC students as Pikachu, Marshmallow Snow, Night, Oreo, Chicken Nugget, Sunset, Smudge, Quetzel, and Salang - joined the GAC community. Lower School students regularly visit the chicken coop to watch the hens grow and change with each season.  They love caring for them by feeding, giving water, and collecting eggs—and even our Young Learners stop by from time to time! It’s so special to see the awe and wonder in our students’ eyes as they discover God’s creation through our feathered friends.

For a week in early September, every class celebrated the hens’ 4th birthday. From K3 through 5th grade, students explored the chicken life cycle, fed the hens special treats, and enjoyed activities, and participated in other activities to celebrate.

Enjoy this video of one of GAC’s K3 classes celebrating the chickens’ 4th birthday!

This celebration is just one example of the meaningful hands-on learning that makes GAC Academics so special. To learn more about GAC Academics, click here.
