News & Notes: A Spring Sports Wrap-Up

(May 9th- May 16th) 

Track and Field: 

Head Coach Brad Kinser took both the Boys and Girls Varsity Track Teams to Grisham Stadium in Carrolton, Georgia to compete in the 3A GHSA State Championship from May 12-14. 

Led by first place finishes from junior Nia Wilson and by senior Alana Thomas, the Varsity Girls Track team finished third at state with a total of 66 points. 

- Nia Wilson won the 100-meter dash (11.66 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (24.03). 

  • Nia broke the school record in both the 100-meter dash (previously held by Trinity Rossum) and she broke the school record in the 200-meter dash (previously held by Jasmine Jones). 

- Junior Morgan Collins finished 3rd in the 800 with a time of (2:14.56).  

- The 400-Meter Relay placed 2nd at state with a time of (48.89).

  • Senior China Moody, sophomore Ivy Holland, junior Nia Wilson, and sophomore Elizabeth Cloudt ran each leg of the race.  

- Seniors Alana Thomas and Autumn Clark dominated the field events, as both finished in the Top 3 for discus and shot put. 

  • Alana Thomas won on state in the shot put (38 feet, 11 inches), and she placed third in discus (130-0).
  • Autumn Clark finished second in discus (130-4), and third in shot put (38-3). 
  • Both athletes have signed on to compete collegiately in track and field with Tuskegee University and Dartmouth University respectively. 

Standout performers for the Varsity Boys Track Team include:

  • Senior Gannon Hearst finished 6th at state in the 100-meter dash (11:08).
  • Junior Colton Harsh finished 10th in the 1600-meter run (4:41.86). 
  • Junior Addison Alsobrook finished 8th in the 3200-meter run (10:09:62).
  • 400-meter relay placed 4th
    • Seniors Gannon Hearst and Josh Williamson, alongside sophomore Mason Liggons and junior Charles Phillips competed in the event
  • 800-meter relay also finished in 4th place
    • Junior Charles Phillips, sophomore Beau O'Brien, senior Josh Williamson, and freshman Jaden Henry ran for the Spartans. 
  • 3200-meter relay finished in 3rd place
    • Senior Charles Davis and juniors Addison Alsobrook, Colton Harsh, and Josiah Asfaw competed in the event.

Baseball: 

The Varsity Baseball team competed in a hard-fought three game series against Pike County. The Spartans battled until the end but fell just short against the Pike County Pirates. In his first season a the helm, Varsity Head Coach Josh Lee brought the Spartans to the Elite Eight. His team earned several accolades based on their performance this season.

All-County Second Team:

  • Junior, Camden Helms

Honorable Mention:

Academic All-County Team

  • Senior, Trey Woolley

Senior Ford Hallock was named as GAC's representative for the Scott McIntyre Hustle and Attitude Award. 

March Players of the Month:

- April Players of the Month:

  • Senior, Sawyer Crum
  • Sophomore, Conrad Cason

Lacrosse:

Boys' Lacrosse:

  • Senior Quad Williams was named the "Goalie of the Year" for all of the Varsity Boys' Lacrosse teams in Gwinnett County. Quad also was the team's nominee for the "Leadership Award." 

Girls' Lacrosse:

  • Senior Charlee Cutchins was named as First-Team member on Defense
  • Junior Tory Seaton was named as Third-Team member at Midfield
  • Seniors Madeline Facteau and Kylee Herbert each received the Leadership Award for the Spartans.
