What do you do when you’re supposed to graduate high school and all the anticipated senior activities and graduation are canceled or postponed?
You look ahead.
Nia Guinn has a lot ahead after recently learning that she was selected for the prestigious Posse Foundation Scholarship from Texas A&M University. Through a dynamic screening and interview process, the Posse Foundation identifies, recruits and trains individuals with extraordinary leadership potential. According to their website, the Posse Foundation and its 58 partner institutions empower diverse groups of leaders who transform communities, this country and the world. Over 17,000 nominees are considered from 10 cities nationwide, with only 719 chosen. The Posse Foundation provides a full tuition leadership scholarship. POSSE FOUNDATION FAQ
After considering multiple schools and offers, Nia chose Texas A&M for its legacy of rich traditions. She plans to major in public health and go into nursing. Her GAC science teacher, Mrs. Joann Waldrop, a Nurse-Leader who transitioned to high school education, has been one of Nia’s mentors. “Mrs. Waldrop is always so positive and giving. She really helps me remember why we serve and what an amazing impact even little things can have on people,” shared Nia.
A genuine servant-leader, Nia has been an excellent student at GAC who has served throughout high school on the GAC Guatemala Mission Team, as a multi-year volunteer at 12 Stone Church and Cornerstone Ministries.
Congratulations to Nia on this outstanding achievement!
