Scepter Brownlee named Head Boys Basketball Coach at Greater Atlanta Christian School

The GAC Athletic Department would like to announce that  Scepter Brownlee will join the GAC family as our new Head Boys Basketball Coach. Coach Brownlee brings over a decade of collegiate coaching experience, including six years as a high school head coach, a strong commitment to player development, and a mission-driven leadership style that aligns with GAC’s mission.

“After a long and detailed search, we are excited to announce Scepter Brownlee as our next Head Boys Basketball Coach. With a deep knowledge of the game and a passion for developing young people, Coach Brownlee has trained and coached collegiate and high school players. A man of high character, he will combine his deep Christian faith and strong leadership skills to direct all levels of our program,” Tim Hardy, GAC Athletic Director, said.

Coach Brownlee joins GAC after leading Calvary Day School in Savannah to back-to-back GHSA Sweet 16 appearances. This past season, Calvary finished 13-0 in Region play, produced four First Team All-Region players, and featured both the Region Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year.

Coach Brownlee’s experience also spans both men’s and women’s NCAA Division I programs, including coaching roles at the University of Tennessee, Georgia State, Southeast Missouri State, Old Dominion, and Mississippi State. In addition to his collegiate work, Brownlee also served as Assistant Athletic Director and Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at King’s Ridge Christian School and Director of Student Life at Calvary Day School.

Coach Bruce Pearl of Auburn University added:
“Working with Scepter at the University of Tennessee, I could tell early on that his drive and mission to treat people well would take him far in this profession. I’m extremely proud of the man and coach he has become.”

Coach Cuonzo Martin, Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Missouri State, shared:
“Scepter brings a passion and attention to detail that will raise the standard of GAC basketball. He has shown a great ability to lead young men to victory—and to the One who conquered victory for us all.”

“I’m excited about the opportunity to coach at an elite private Christian school where I can lead with my faith and coach with passion and intention,” Coach Brownlee said. “Greater Atlanta Christian School is a special place, and I’m humbled to be part of its academic prowess, basketball tradition, and Christ-centered community.”

Since its beginning in 1968, GAC has been a prominent force in Georgia boys’ high school basketball, winning eight state championships and producing a proud tradition of excellence on the court. GAC’s basketball legacy includes two alumni currently playing in the NBA—Malcolm Brogdon (Washington Wizards) and Ben Sheppard (Indiana Pacers) — as well as numerous graduates competing at the collegiate level. Coach Brownlee now steps into a program rich with history and poised for a bright future.

Coach Brownlee will be at GAC on the evening of Tuesday, May 6, at 6:00 p.m. for a Meet and Greet event with the parents and players. It will be held in the Fincher Student-Family Center in Room 214.
