Spartans Sweep Top Honors from Georgia High School Swimming Coaches Association

The 2025-2026 season will be remembered as one of the most dominant in the history of Greater Atlanta Christian swimming, and the recognition continues to roll in. Following a historic performance at the GHSA Class AAA-A State Championships, the Georgia High School Swimming Coaches Association has named Abby Sutter the Girls Swimmer of the Year, James Sorensen the Boys Swimmer of the Year, and Emily Krug the Coach of the Year. The awards cap off a remarkable year for the Spartan program, which captured both the boys and girls team state championships at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center in emphatic fashion.

Leading the charge for the Spartans was Sorensen, whose standout performances helped power the boys team to its championship. He opened the meet by winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:50.35, showcasing his versatility across all four strokes. Later in the meet, Sorensen added another individual state title in the 100-yard backstroke, cruising to victory with a varsity-record time of 48.33.

Sorensen’s impact extended beyond his individual events. He also anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay, teaming with Richard Vo, Daniel Clempus, and Carson Creendino to win the event in 3:17.58, sealing another crucial victory for the Spartans.

On the girls side, Sutter delivered one of the most thrilling moments of the meet. She captured the 100-yard freestyle in dramatic fashion, winning by just 0.15 seconds to secure another individual title for GAC. Earlier in the meet, Sutter also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly, setting a new varsity record with a time of 55.65.

Sutter was also a key part of the Spartans’ relay dominance. She joined Darsey Patterson, Savannah Carter, and Kathryn Tarpley to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.43, providing another exclamation point to the team’s championship performance.

With a sweep of team state championships and the top individual honors from the Georgia High School Swimming Coaches Association, this season stands out as a defining chapter for GAC swimming.
