Varsity Boys Tennis Captures Their First State Championship Since 2015

Throughout the season, the Varsity Boys Tennis Team typically took control of most of their matches. During the playoffs, GAC did not give up a single point as they won over Villa Rica (4-0, first round), Calhoun (5-0, second round), Decatur (3-0, quarterfinals) and McIntosh (5-0, semifinals).

The Spartans held a 23-2 record heading into the AAAAA State Championship, and they faced one of the only teams that had defeated them so far: Chattahoochee High School. GAC fell to Chattahoochee during the regular season 3-2, however the roles were reversed later on as the Spartans won the Region Tournament rematch 3-2. The state title match on May 13th was the third match of the season between both teams.

Senior Jason Kim, who will attend the U.S. Naval Academy this Fall, won the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Freshman Jack Morrison and sophomore Ayaan Valiani both won 6-0 at No. 2 doubles to kick things off at state. Freshman Harrison Kemp also won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

The 3-0 victory over Chattahoochee marked the first state title for our Varsity Boys Tennis Team since 2015. This is also their eighth championship in total since 2001.
