Middle School Assignments

Choose a linked pair of books and read both of them. You will take an AR test on both the fiction and non-fiction book. 

6^th graders are required to complete one of the non-fiction Need to Read guides (linked in the section below) when you read your linked pair.

Read one of these Biography options and complete the writing assignment that follows. 

Choose one book from the Reader's Choice list that you have never read before. Take an AR test on the book by August 14.

GAC students need to be strong readers who understand and remember what they read. Embracing texts with confidence is much more fun and will make you stronger in every subject. The tools below will train your brain to ask questions, engage creatively, and retain knowledge. To gain the benefit, take the time to stop and fill in the questions and ideas each day. It will not be useful if it is filled out after the book if finished. Choose the tool that fits best, if it’s non-fiction (NF) and not a biography or an event, use NF Info.

Intro to Pre-Algebra

The 6th grade Reading Challenge is an optional opportunity to excel by reading an additional three books from the challenge reading list. The books you need to read include—

1.     One book from the 6^th grade Challenge Level Fiction

2.     One book from 6^th grade Challenge level Non-Fiction

3.     One more book of your choice with an Accelerated Reader point value of 8 or more. Use Renaissance Book Finder to help you identify a book. 

Pass an Accelerated Reader Test on each of these 3 books, and you will earn recognition and special privileges.

The entire 8^th grade will read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and complete this guide, Need to Read the Outsiders. If you have read it before, read it again this summer. Take an AR test on The Outsiders by August 14.

1. House Arrest by K.A. Holt or
2. Martin Luther King Jr.: A Photographic Story of a Life by Amy Pastan

Take an AR test on your choice by August 14.

Read your choice of the 10 Biography options. Complete the written project and turn in to your English teacher on the first day of school.
